Welcome to She Ewe Knits!
Hi, my name is Anne, aka She Ewe Knits! I’ve been an avid knitter for most of my adult life. With no formal
fashion or design training, I’ve developed my knitting skills by attending
as many knitting seminars as I can.
With a little trepidation, and lots of excitement, I’ve attended a
knitting weekend at the
Rowan Green Lane mill in Holmfirth,
Yorkshire, UK, led by Louisa Harding; I've been to two "Spring Fling"
knitting weekends at the Muskoka Sands resort in Ontario, organized by
Sara Smith
of Wood 'n Needles; and I have attended
Meg Swansen's Knitting Camp in
Wisconsin twice!
I have also attended many one or two-day seminars, and my knitting
education has included classes with Kathryn Alexander, Lily Chin, the late Annabelle
Dawson, Cynthia Helene,
Jean Moss,
Lucy Neatby,
Jo Sharp, and Margaret Stove (in
alphabetical order).
My favorite yarn is pure wool, and I prefer classic garments; after all,
my time and skill is worth the best materials, and classic garments never go
out of style! So when I decided to retire from full-time employment to
have more time to spend on my passion for knitting, I chose to specialize in
Jamieson's Shetland yarns.
Knitting Guilds are a great way to meet other knitters. I am a
member of the
Kitchener-Waterloo
Knitters Guild,
The
Downtown Knit Collective, and participate in the Yak 'n Yarn night at my LYS,
Main St. Yarns.
I'm always being asked what I'm knitting right now -- I just started a blog to help keep me focused,
and remind me of all the great things in my life! Visit
Shades of Shetland, if you're interested.
I also take photographs when travelling -- if you like to virtual travel -
check out my trip to
Shetland
in 2003, and the sheep I saw on my trip to
Yorkshire in 2005.
I live peacefully in Milton, Ontario, Canada with my dear husband,
with our cat Caelee, and our newest addition to the family, Daisy! Daisy
is three years old now, and I can't
remember what life was like without this little white whirlwind! She's
added so much to our family -- and now Caelee and her get along just great!
Happy Knitting!
Anne
PS:
You may have wondered why I chose "She Ewe Knits" as my
company name.....Well (I won't be offended if you stop reading here....<vbg>)
--
I am an avid
fan of the PBS Mystery series...and one of my favorites is "Rumpole of the
Bailey". If you know Rumpole, you'll know he always refers to his wife
as "She Who Must Be Obeyed!". So I thought of "She Who Knits".
Then one
night I was watching a videotape of the "All Creatures Great and Small"
series (we have them all!). It was the one where Helen, James
Herriott's wife is answering the phone in the surgery....and there is a
confused exchange between her and the farmer calling.
Farmer:
"Our ewes amiss"
Helen:
"No Mr. so-and-so, it's Mrs. Herriott (Helen thinks he's asking if she is a
"Miss"
Farmer:
"Our ewes amiss"
Helen:
"Oh, I see, your ewe is amiss!"
Sorry if this isn't making any sense to you, but if you
are an All Creatures Great and Small fan, you'll understand why it tickled
my fancy.
So, "She Who Knits" became "She Ewe Knits" -- it's that
simple! |
